U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that an agent fired shots at individuals near the U.S.-Canada border in Pittsburgh, New Hampshire, early Sunday morning.
CBP Director Rodney Scott confirmed that the agent hit a yet-to-be-identified man. He was taken to a local hospital, but it’s unclear how he’s doing.
“The FBI Boston Field Office will handle the investigation. CBP is fully cooperating and will provide more details to the FBI,” Scott told WMUR.
The FBI stated that the shooting took place around 1 a.m. Sunday, and initial investigations suggest that the individual first fired at the agents.
An FBI evidence response team arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
This shooting coincided with another incident where a man was shot and killed after allegedly breaching the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida.
The U.S. Secret Service mentioned that this unauthorized intrusion happened around 1:30 a.m. The man, identified as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from Palm Beach County, North Carolina, reportedly approached the north gate of the resort just as another vehicle was leaving.
He was apparently seen with a shotgun and a fuel can. Investigators and deputies confronted him. “They encountered a white male with a gas can and shotgun, instructing him to drop the equipment. He put down the gas can but raised the shotgun,” Sheriff Rick Bradshaw told reporters. “At that point, officers neutralized the threat.” No dialogues occurred between the suspect and the officers.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials reported that no Secret Service or PBSO personnel were injured, and there were no Secret Service members present when the incident unfolded.
