Border Bill to Allow 8,500 Migrants per Day

Sometimes we believe what we read on the internet.

The authors of the border bill repeatedly assured Americans that the bill would not allow for more than 5,000 immigrants per day, calling such claims “internet rumors” and “totally absurd.”

“There are rumors going around on the internet right now,” said Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.). fox news sunday on Jan. 28 when speaking about the allegations. “It’s all about people running.”

“It’s absolutely ridiculous to agree to 5,000 people a day,” he said.

These internet rumors seem to have more truth to them than Lankford. The number allowed per day is even worse than the details of the leaked bill.

The bill would allow up to 8,500 migrants a day to cross the border without triggering a state of emergency.

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) even claimed that Russian disinformation was behind these “rumours.”

“Probably a lot of things are “I hope that this rumor will be shut down, because rumors on the Internet often come from abroad, and some people do not want to give money to Ukraine,” he said.

However, the bill’s text states that the Secretary of Homeland Security “shall activate border emergency authorities if the Secretary of Homeland Security encounters an average of 5,000 or more aliens each day for seven consecutive calendar days.” ing. Or, on any calendar day, he would encounter a total of over 8,500 aliens in one day. ”

This passage clearly contradicts Mr. Lankford’s promise to the American people.

“This is different. It’s not like someone is going to stand at the border with a little clicker and say let’s get one more person in, 4,999 people, and we have to stop that,” Lankford added. . “This is a border closure and everyone is actually going to be turned away.”
