Biden Administration’s Open Border Policy Raises Security Concerns
The Biden administration’s border policies have led to worries about Iranian “sleeper cells” potentially positioned within the U.S., especially following escalating tensions with adversaries over the weekend. Tom Homan, a former official in immigration enforcement, labeled it as, perhaps, the “biggest national security vulnerability” the country has ever faced.
“It’s a serious threat,” he expressed during an appearance on Fox Business’s Morning with Maria.
There are warnings from experts that hospitals in sanctuary cities could be particularly exposed to attacks, should retaliation from Iran occur.
Homan shared that, under the current administration, the average “Gotaway” count—those who slipped across the border illegally—was around 1,800 daily. These individuals are often unidentified, and their presence raises concerns. “I’m not sure who they are, where they come from, or why they’re here, but they’ve gotten away,” he noted.
He emphasized that the issue of potential sleeper cells has been a significant concern for him for years. The focus now seems to be on reversing the chaos that he attributes to the previous administration, primarily through tightening border security.
Former acting DHS secretary Chad Wolf echoed Homan’s sentiments, highlighting that a concerning number of unidentified foreign nationals crossed into the U.S. during Biden’s presidency. He spoke on Tuesday’s “American Newsroom,” emphasizing the looming dangers posed by groups like Hezbollah and Hamas already within U.S. borders.
“We’re unsure if they are being activated or inspired,” he remarked, acknowledging the ongoing efforts by the FBI and local law enforcement to mitigate these risks.
Interestingly, a source from U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that over 1,500 Iranians who illegally entered the country were apprehended, with almost half of them being released. This statistic has raised alarms about the present security landscape.
Shortly after President Trump’s announcements regarding a successful military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites, the DHS released a memo cautioning about an “enhanced threat environment” in the U.S. The memo indicated that Iranian officials hinted at possible retaliation, yet specifics were not detailed.
