A U.S. Border Patrol agent was attacked Tuesday by suspected smugglers while apprehending an illegal immigrant in Arizona, officials said.
The U.S. Border Patrol said unidentified agents were detaining several migrants during a rock attack near the border city of San Luis, Arizona.
Authorities with the Border Patrol's Yuma Division were investigating the incident.
Images released by the agency show the agent with what appears to be a deep cut above his eye and blood pouring from his face.

No other information has been released.
Attacks on border officials have become more regular in recent months as record numbers of migrants attempt to cross the southern border. Two Mexican nationals recently pleaded guilty to assaulting agents who tried to arrest them in New Mexico last summer.
In September, another operative was attacked in Texas while trying to crack down on immigration.
The Biden administration has come under intense scrutiny over its handling of the border, including attacks on U.S. military personnel. Texas defied the federal government and took over border security itself.
“The executive branch of the United States has a constitutional obligation to enforce federal laws that protect our state, including immigration laws currently in place,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a lengthy statement Wednesday. . “President Biden is refusing to enforce and even violate these laws.”

Mr. Abbott is currently engaged in multiple legal battles with the administration, with the federal government threatening legal action over Texas' takeover of Shelby Park near Eagle Pass, while the state's razor Lawsuits by the administration continue over the cutting of wires and the installation of buoys near Eagle Pass. Texas is also being sued by the administration over recently signed legislation that allows state and local authorities to arrest illegal immigrants.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sided with Texas on this issue.
