Border Patrol Commander to Retire

Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino is set to retire from federal service, as reported by two sources following his departure from Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota. An acquaintance shared, “I have firsthand knowledge of his decisions.”

Bovino, who has been the chief patrol officer in the El Centro region along the U.S.-Mexico border, has received approval from immigration advocates for his tough stance on enforcing federal laws.

He plans to retire at the end of this month, although some sources have expressed uncertainty regarding this timeline.

Reflecting on his career, Bovino stated, “The greatest honor of my life has been working alongside Border Patrol agents at the U.S. border and in the interior of the United States, during some of the most challenging times Border Patrol has ever encountered.”

However, his actions have not been without controversy. Critics on the left have targeted him after the fatal incidents involving anti-ICE activists in Minneapolis. Following these events, he was replaced by border czar Tom Homan, who eventually called off the operation after reaching a consensus with local officials.

Upon returning to California, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced that Bovino and other federal agents were under criminal investigation for their actions in Minnesota.

Moriarty mentioned, “Our Transparency and Accountability Project is currently investigating 17 incidents reported by the community, including Gregory Bovino’s actions near Mueller Park on January 21st.” On that day, Bovino was captured on video using a chemical irritant against anti-ICE protesters.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responded sternly to Moriarty’s investigation. They stated, “This does nothing to make Minnesota safer. Enforcing federal immigration laws is a clear federal responsibility… Politicians are blaming law enforcement without recognizing how they have fueled the hate and violence against federal officers.”

After leaving Minnesota, Bovino shared a video statement where he commended federal immigration officials. In a message from Mount Rushmore, he expressed, “I’m incredibly proud of what you are accomplishing right now in Minneapolis, just as you have been across this country for the last nine arduous months.” He added, “I want you to know that I’m rooting for you. I support you, and I salute you.”
