Border Patrol Presence at Newsom’s Anti-Trump Rally

US Border Patrol agents had a notable presence at an anti-Trump rally held by California Governor Gavin Newsom in Los Angeles on Thursday. During the event, at least one arrest was made.

Newsom, who has been vocal against President Donald Trump and has been rumored to have presidential ambitions, organized an event called “Freeing Day” to discuss upcoming actions in response to Republican efforts in Texas.

Before the rally, Newsom took to social media to declare, “Donald Trump and [Texas Governor] Greg Abbott will have a very bad day today.”

Videos shared by local affiliates, including Fox 11, captured numerous armed and masked Border Patrol agents positioned outside the rally. Witnesses reported seeing a man being escorted away in handcuffs, prompting anger from onlookers.

Border Patrol’s Message

Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino spoke to Fox 11, stating, “We’re making Los Angeles a safer place here.” He continued, noting that their role is critical, saying, “We don’t have any politicians to do that, so we do it.” Bovino added, “We are happy that we are here and we are not going anywhere.”

When asked what his message to Newsom was, he reiterated, “Again, we make Los Angeles a safer place.”

In response to the federal agents’ presence, Newsom’s office sent a bold statement via email, emphasizing that “Trump’s private troops are illegally located on private property!!!” He pointed out the presence of federal agents and questioned the timing, stating, “Do you think it’s a coincidence?” Newsom accused Trump and his associates of intentionally staging the arrests as a show of force.

Reflecting on the tense atmosphere, Newsom characterized the situation: “America, America. This is a serious moment. You wake up to fear, anxiety. You see our streets militarized, not just here in Los Angeles. That’s Trump’s America.” He lamented the current state of affairs, suggesting it embodies a period of unrest.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach both ICE and Border Patrol for comments, but no immediate responses were provided.
