CBP Supervisor Arrested for Harboring Illegal Immigrants
A supervisor from U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been charged with harboring illegal immigrants, and it appears he may have had a personal connection with one of them—allegedly, a romantic relationship.
Andres Wilkinson, who is 52, made his first court appearance earlier this week in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He was released on bail set at $75,000.
Wilkinson has been with CBP since 2001, moving up to a supervisory role in 2021. If found guilty, he could face as much as a decade in prison and a hefty fine of $250,000.
According to the allegations, the veteran agent was responsible for enforcing customs and immigration laws. He allegedly assisted his girlfriend, Elva Edith Garcia-Vallejo, in bypassing Border Patrol checkpoints while they were living together. Garcia-Vallejo had reportedly overstayed her nonimmigrant visa from 2023, and it seems Wilkinson was aware of her unauthorized status. Yet, he allowed her and her daughter to reside in his home in Laredo, Texas.
Surveillance conducted by law enforcement at Wilkinson’s residence from June to November of last year reportedly confirmed that Garcia-Vallejo and a child were living there. The complaint indicates that while she was described as Wilkinson’s “girlfriend,” investigations indicated that she is actually his niece—her father is Wilkinson’s brother.
Earlier this month, investigators spoke with Garcia-Vallejo, who mentioned she had been living with her uncle since August 2024.
The complaint also outlines how Wilkinson allegedly provided financial support to Garcia-Vallejo, which included credit cards and assistance with expenses, alongside access to vehicles registered in his name.
“Given the circumstances mentioned, there is probable cause to believe that SCBPO Wilkinson knowingly harbored, concealed, and protected illegal immigrants from detection,” the complaint states.
As of now, CBP has not responded to media inquiries regarding the case.
