Border protection unions on Monday derided President Biden’s planned border visit this week as a cynical ploy to protect his presidency at the expense of the safety of Americans.

In a statement received by Fox News Digital, the union said Biden’s planned border visit in his third year in office is “too little, too late, despite repeated assertions that there is no crisis.” Stated.

The union argued that if the president’s claims that he did everything in his power to secure the border were true, there was “no point in visiting the border now.”

“But even if he introduced the right policies at this late hour, he would only be doing it to try to save his presidency. And the time is coming to an end. His self-serving behavior should always give Americans pause. Common sense dictates that, as a lame duck, he will return to an open border policy if re-elected,” the union said.

“Biden is now heading to the border just to try to save himself. Border security should never be about politics. It should always be about the safety and security of this great country and the American people. is.”

FOX News Digital has asked the White House for a response.

The union’s statement comes as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to duel at the U.S.-Mexico border this week, with both candidates topping the country’s broken immigration system in a rematch of elections expected this year. It was announced in a bid to turn the situation to their political advantage.

Biden is scheduled to visit Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley, where border crossings occur frequently. He plans to meet with Border Patrol agents to discuss the need for a bipartisan bill. This will be his second visit to the border as president. He visited El Paso last January.

The trip underscores the central importance of immigration to the 2024 presidential election for Republicans, and increasingly for Democrats, especially after the collapse of Congressional talks on a deal to curb illegal immigration.

The Biden administration is combining border enforcement with expanding legal routes to direct migrants on sponsored flights rather than walking to the border illegally. However, U.S. policy currently allows migrants to apply for asylum regardless of how they arrived. And the number of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border far exceeds the capacity of an immigration system that has not been substantially updated in decades.
