Mr Johnson has written about this in his forthcoming book 'Unleashed', in which he details his final interaction with the Queen. Earlier that summer, Johnson had resigned from Congress.
“Like all 13 of my predecessors, I have come to spend the last hour of my time as Prime Minister with Queen Elizabeth II. That day is September 6, 2022, two months after I resigned as Prime Minister. After all this, under our system, I was asked to stay behind and look after the store while the Conservative Party proceeded to choose a new leader.
“It's been a pretty frustrating summer,” he wrote.

When Mr Johnson and his wife, Carrie, arrived at Balmoral, they noticed fatigue among the staff.
“Her private secretary, Edward Young, was trying to get me ready,” Johnson wrote, according to the newspaper. “I've known for over a year that she has a type of bone cancer, and her doctors were worried that she could go into rapid decline at any time.”
Rumors have been reported that the Queen was battling myeloma, a form of bone marrow cancer, in her later years, but this has not been confirmed.
When asked for comment by Fox News Digital, Buckingham Palace said: “We do not plan to provide any guidance or comment on this matter and this should not be seen as a guide to the facts.”
Mr Johnson wrote that Mr Young had told him that the Queen had been “quite unwell over the summer”. When the two met, Johnson wrote, “she appeared pale, hunched over, and had dark bruises on her hands and wrists, probably from an IV drip or injection.”

“But, as Edward said, her heart was not harmed in the slightest by her illness, and occasionally in our conversation she would still smile with that snow-white smile of sudden uplifting beauty. ”
Johnson wrote of his close relationship with the Queen, admitting that there was “nothing I couldn't say to her”. He recalled lamenting how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected individuals and the economy.
“'Very well,'” Johnson remembers the queen saying. “'I think we all need to start over again.'

“I realized that she was speaking from historical knowledge of someone who actually served in uniform in World War II and whose first prime minister was Winston Churchill. I knew my kingdom was capable of infinite recovery and recovery. Let's just take it easy and keep going,” Johnson wrote, the Daily Mail reported.
Mr Johnson said the Queen's secretary later explained to him, “The Queen had known all summer that she was leaving office, but was determined to persevere and carry out her final mission.'' “It was to oversee a peaceful and orderly transition to the next government. And we look forward to seeing another outgoing Prime Minister join her record-breaking numbers.”
