Boris Johnson Removed From Train Following Russian Drone Attack: Reports

Johnson Evacuated from Train After Drone Strike in Ukraine

Boris Johnson reportedly had to evacuate from a train traveling from Ukraine to Poland following a Russian drone strike along the rail line.

As stated in various reports, Johnson was returning from the YES international security conference in Kyiv when he and fellow passengers were awakened early Sunday morning around 5 a.m. local time. Guards alerted them after another train ahead was struck near Volyn, close to the Polish border.

The Daily Telegraph indicated that Johnson was unharmed, and thankfully, there were no reported casualties from the incident.

Throughout his political career, Johnson has been recognized as one of Ukraine’s key international allies, adopting a firm stance against the Russian invasion. He supported Ukraine by providing British anti-tank weapons and substantial aid during his tenure.

His robust backing of Ukraine’s efforts earned him considerable admiration there, to the point where pastries in Kyiv have even been named after him.

A poll published in June 2022 revealed that he enjoyed a 90 percent approval rating in Ukraine, making him one of the most popular foreign leaders, comparable to President Zelensky at that time.

On the train with Johnson were diplomats and politicians from various European countries, including former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and German Green MP Robin Wagener. Wagener remarked to Der Spiegel: “These drone attacks are blind terror against Ukrainian civilians and a dangerous escalation in Putin’s war.”

He continued, “Russia is becoming more and more unscrupulous and is setting fires right on the border with the European Union and NATO. We must finally set clear limits to this terror.”

This drone strike caused significant concern across the border, prompting Polish Air Force fighter jets to be deployed in case the threat expanded into their territory.

Earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk cautioned that Russia might ramp up assaults near the borders of European countries in Ukraine in the upcoming weeks. He commented, “Russia already decided to engage in provocative attacks on border crossing points, for example in Moldova. We expect similar actions regarding border crossings with Ukraine in other countries as well, including Poland.”
