Boulos Reaches Out to Palestinians; Trump Talks to Netanyahu

President-elect Donald Trump appears to be serious about achieving Israeli-Palestinian peace, the so-called “deal of the century.” This agreement, pursued during his first term, led to the Abraham Accords, but did not bring the Palestinians into agreement.

Tiffany Trump's father-in-law, Massad Boulos, has been in contact with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas in hopes of restoring relations, according to the Times of Israel. He also ensured that Trump and Abbas would continue to exchange letters after Trump survived an assassination attempt in July.

era of israel reported:

Tiffany Trump's father-in-law Massad Boulos, a key Arab representative to the US president-elect, met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September, a senior Palestinian official said. told the Times.

Prime Minister Abbas emphasized his intention to work with President Trump toward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Mr. Boulos and Bishara Baber, president of President Trump's Arab Americans, helped coordinate a letter Mr. Abbas wrote to Mr. Trump after the assassination attempt in July, wishing him well.

Boulos has also been tapped to lead negotiations with Lebanon to end the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Abbas has had a rocky relationship with Trump. When Trump was elected in 2016, Palestinians were shocked and had no connection with the incoming administration. President Trump met with Abbas after taking office, but he was furious with the Palestinian Authority (PA) for funding terrorism. He signed the Taylor Force Act, cutting off U.S. taxpayer funding to Palestine while it continues to support terrorism, and closing the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Washington, DC.

President Trump invited the Palestinians to join the Abraham Accords in exchange for promised incentives of $50 billion in investment aid. The Palestinians refused.

President Trump is unlikely to pursue a “two-state solution,” especially in the aftermath of the Hamast terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. However, it may try to reach a peace agreement on an alternative basis.

Separately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he had met directly with President Trump three times since his victory in last week's U.S. presidential election and that the two sides were “on the same page.”

In a statement (translated by the government press office), Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “In recent days, I have met three times with President-elect Donald Trump. These were outstanding and important meetings aimed at further strengthening the strong ties between Israel and the United States. We look at the threat from all sides of Iran and the dangers it represents. We also look at the great opportunities facing Israel in peace and advancement, and in other areas. I'm heading towards it.

Qatar has also recently moved to expel Hamas terrorist leaders from its borders, and Saudi Arabia is said to be backtracking on its normalization deal with Israel.

In fact, the “deal of the century” may soon become a reality.
