Boxer Georgia O’Connor passes away at 25 only two weeks after her wedding

Reports indicate that boxer Georgia O’Connor has died at the age of 25 following a prolonged battle with cancer.

The British athlete was diagnosed in October 2024, when a doctor described her condition as a “rare, aggressive,” and “incurable” type of cancer.

Her death comes just under two weeks after she wed her partner, Adriano.

On Instagram, she shared memorable moments from her wedding day, posting pictures of their hands interlaced and displaying their rings.

“09.05.2025. The day I married the love of my life,” O’Connor mentioned in her last social media post.

Hailing from Cant Leader Ram, O’Connor had a distinguished amateur career, securing a gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017.

She also earned a silver medal at the World Youth Championships in 2018, along with a bronze from the same event later that year.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Georgia O’Connor,” remarked English Boxing on social media. “She was a talented boxer and a cherished member of the amateur boxing community, winning medals at various prestigious events. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.”

Earlier this year, she revealed her cancer diagnosis after having previously struggled with ulcerative colitis.

In one of her Instagram updates, she expressed immense gratitude toward Adriano for his unwavering support during her health struggles.

“From the moment I was diagnosed, Adriano didn’t hesitate. He left his job and committed himself to finding solutions alongside me,” she reflected in a post from February 3rd.

“While some doctors seemed indifferent, he traveled across Europe, searching for treatments that might not even exist. Constantly pursuing every possible option to give me a fighting chance.”

“I’ve never known this kind of love. He stood by me without question, and together we faced every dark moment. Adriano, you’re my superhero and my soulmate. I can’t express how much you mean to me.”

O’Connor turned professional in 2021 and was undefeated in three bouts before her diagnosis.

Her last fight was part of the undercard at an October 2022 match featuring former world champion Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields.

Promoter Ben Shalom from Boxxer expressed their grief, stating, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Georgia O’Connor. The boxing community has lost a fiercely brave and talented young woman far too soon. Georgia was greatly loved and respected; our thoughts are with her loved ones during this challenging time.”
