Details Emerge from Jermall Charlo’s DWI Arrest

New police footage reveals that several officers drew their weapons during Jermall Charlo’s DWI arrest, which took place on May 6, 2024, around 6:39 p.m. in Pearland, Texas. The incident escalated when Charlo was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident with his 2020 Lamborghini Urus.

Body camera footage shows officers commanding Charlo to exit his vehicle repeatedly. Initially, he didn’t comply, prompting police to aim their firearms at him. Although Charlo eventually exited the car, he appeared to attempt re-entering it, which caused visible concern for the officers.

“Don’t get back in your car!” shouted an officer, directing his gun towards Charlo. “Listen to me!”

Ultimately, Charlo did follow the orders. He fell to the ground and was handcuffed. During the police interaction, he seemed disoriented, exhibited slurred speech, and continuously requested a chance from the officers.

Charlo denied involvement in the earlier accident, insisting, “I didn’t touch his car. The man says I touched his car. I never touched his car.”

While searching his vehicle, police reported finding three bottles of tequila—one sealed and two empty. Subsequently, Charlo was transported to a nearby jail for further investigation. According to police reports, he showed multiple signs of intoxication during field sobriety tests, with blood alcohol content readings of .237 and .231, which exceed the legal limit of .08.

Charlo faced two misdemeanor charges related to his actions that night, including a DUI with a BAC of over 0.15 and causing damage of more than $200. On June 1, he accepted a plea deal with prosecutors, admitting guilt to the DWI charge.

As part of his sentence, Charlo received three days in county jail, with credit for time served, along with a $1,011 fine and a 90-day driver’s license suspension. His attorney, Kent A. Shafer, mentioned that Charlo viewed the resolution as the quickest way to move past the issue, prioritizing closure over distractions.

Notably, Jermall Charlo, who shares a boxing career with his twin brother Jermell, most recently secured a victory against Thomas LaManna by TKO in May 2025.
