boxing legend Roberto Duran, a four-time champion in four different weight classes, is undergoing treatment for a heart condition, his family confirmed in a statement Friday.
The 72-year-old’s family announced Duran’s condition in a statement, adding: “He has suffered health complications from an illness and is undergoing treatment.” Atrioventricular blockade. ”

“We are awaiting results so that we can provide further information regarding his health status,” the statement continued. “We would like to thank all of his relatives, friends and supporters who are praying for him.”

In a statement on X, the WBC president said Duran was receiving treatment in his home country of Panama.
“The entire world joins his family in wishing him a speedy recovery. He is a champion and will win this fight.”

Duran was a world champion in the lightweight, welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight divisions and quickly found success in his professional career, winning his first 32 bouts. He won his first title in 1972 and successfully defended it 12 times.
Duran defeated Sugar Ray Leonard in a welterweight bout in 1980, but lost the fight a few months later, making the infamous “No Mas” line late in the eighth round.

Duran was injured in a car accident in 2001 at the age of 50 and retired with a record of 103 wins and 16 losses.
