An 8-year-old New York boy died Monday night when he was struck by a school bus while walking home from a yeshiva in Rockland County, police said.
According to the Ramapo Police Department, the boy, identified in local reports as Mordechai Pinchos Spitzer, stepped in front of a school bus that was patrolling the Village of New Square to take students home around 6 p.m. .
The boy died at the scene from his injuries.
His father, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Spitzer, is the principal of Skver Girls’ School. Yeshiva World news site reported.

The bus driver remained at the scene of the fatal crash and is cooperating with police.
The area surrounding the Jewish school in the 100 block of Clinton Lane was cordoned off for hours as police collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
“It can be traumatic for responding officers, but we have a health team to support our officers who are here if anything is needed, and in many cases they are available after the fact. We’re going to file a report. And that’s probably the case in this situation because it was a young child,” Ramapo Police Lt. Blaine Howell said. told News 12 Hudson Valley.
The Ramapo Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is working on this case to determine what happened.
