'Boy Meets World' Actor William Daniels Critiques Trump's Plans for the White House Ballroom

William Daniels, known for his role in the popular 1990s series Boy Meets World, recently expressed his disapproval on Instagram regarding President Donald Trump’s plans to construct a ballroom where the former East Wing of the White House once stood.

Daniels, who also starred in the 1972 musical film 1776 as John Adams, reflected on the East Wing’s destruction, describing it as the loss of “a piece of history.”

“Back when Nixon was president, we performed ‘1776’ in the lovely East Room. Even though we didn’t vote for him, he showed great grace. Our current president has taken something significant from our past. That’s not something to ignore,” he shared on Instagram.

However, it’s worth noting that the East Wing hasn’t really been the site of much historical importance. It wasn’t part of the original White House; it was constructed in 1902 and saw a complete redesign during World War II under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had it modified to include war bunkers.

Besides its role in housing FDR’s bunker, the East Wing included a few modest facilities, like offices for the First Lady’s team, a visitor entrance, and a small theater.

Daniels isn’t alone in his concerns; several celebrities have criticized Trump over the plans for the East Wing. Among them are Mia Farrow, Barbra Streisand, Jon Cryer, Mark Hamill, Michael Ian Black, George Takei, and Stephen King.

Nonetheless, there seems to be some exaggeration regarding White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt’s statements about the new banquet hall being Trump’s “top priority.”

As anti-Trump protests escalated, even typically left-leaning fact-checkers recognized that claims regarding the press secretary’s comments were misrepresented and taken out of context.

What Leavitt actually indicated was that banquet halls are one aspect of Trump’s construction agenda, not that the ballroom ranked above all other issues, despite what some misinterpreted.
