Marchand Injured in Panthers’ Victory Over Kings
LOS ANGELES — In a recent game, Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand suffered a left leg injury during the second period of their 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings.
Marchand didn’t return to the bench for the third period, and after the game, coach Paul Maurice was unable to provide any updates on his condition.
“We’ll probably have him looked at on Thursday,” Maurice mentioned.
The injury occurred when Marchand took a stick to the face from Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke with just 52.6 seconds left in the period. This incident caused him to spin around and collide awkwardly with the right post, resulting in his left leg bending in an unnatural way.
He remained on the ice for several minutes as an athletic trainer assessed him. Teammates Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola helped him get back to the bench, during which Marchand was unable to put any weight on his leg. Subsequently, he was assisted to the dressing room.
This incident took place when Marchand was making his return after missing the entire preseason and the first two regular-season games due to recovery from sports hernia surgery.
At 38 years old, Marchand is in his third season with the Panthers after spending the first 16 seasons of his career with the Boston Bruins. He was traded to Florida in March 2025 and played a significant role in securing their second consecutive Stanley Cup during that season.
Throughout his career, Marchand has been involved in various controversies—like throwing helmets, licking opponents, and making questionable hits—which have led to suspensions and fines.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, Marchand’s injury adds to the team’s current challenges. Already, key player Aleksander Barkov injured his left leg during an overtime loss at San Jose earlier in the week, with Maurice stating that Barkov is expected to be out for six to eight weeks but won’t need surgery.
“I mean, we’ve got some experience with Sasha being down, so it wasn’t quite as alarming this time around,” Maurice commented. “We know we have solid depth. There’s definitely a limit to injuries a team can handle, and we surpassed that early last year. Currently, our resolve is strong. The team is in good shape after a solid summer.”
Clarke was assessed a four-minute double-minor penalty for the incident. This incident marked his second penalty of the game; he had previously been called for interference against Eetu Luostarinen earlier in that same period. Luostarinen suffered a stinger from Clarke’s cross-check but was able to return to the game.
