My voice has solidified for next month’s US Open.
NBC announced that golf commentator Brandel Chamblee will join the four-person booth as one of two lead analysts for major golf tournaments.
“He was incredibly prepared for this,” says Tommy Roy, NBC’s lead golf producer. told Sports Business Journal. “I watch old tapes of Johnny Miller and learn how he did it and put my own spin on it. … He’s earned that right.”
Mr. Chamblee, 61, known for his acerbic opinions, replaces Paul Azinger, whose contract was not renewed by the network last fall.
NBC recently hired a rotating cast to replace Azinger, and it was Chamblee who qualified for the U.S. Open.
Chamblee will be paired with play-by-play man Dan Hicks, and analyst Brad Faxon will be paired with play-by-play man Mike Tirico.
Both teams switch off during the tournament’s “prime hour,” with Chamblee and Hicks calling the even holes and Faxon and Tirico calling the odd holes.
“Starting this year, we began utilizing an odd/even hole assignment system for commentator combinations,” Sam Flood, NBC Sports executive producer and president of production, said in a statement. “Our new approach allows the play-by-play announcer to provide more context about what’s going on, while also allowing the analyst and on-course reporter to engage with each other and improve the previous ‘why’ and ‘how’ There are now more opportunities to analyze. Every moment. ”
Mr. Chamblee is a longtime Golf Channel analyst, best known for his role on the network’s show “Live From.”

He told Golfweek: He is happy to perform both duties for both networks.
