Brandon Aiyuk’s Frustrations with the 49ers
Brandon Aiyuk has made his feelings about the San Francisco 49ers quite clear. Recently, he aired his grievances on Instagram, suggesting that the team misled both the media and fans regarding his situation.
In a post, Aiyuk claimed, “When the news broke in November that my guarantee was voided, the team continued to misinform everyone, pretending it wasn’t a decision made back in July. They kept insisting I would return, even after I explicitly told them multiple times that I wouldn’t. Given the seriousness of my injury and the fact that the guarantee was off the table, returning wasn’t really an option for me.” He expressed his frustration that the timeline wasn’t accurately represented.
Aiyuk went further, pointing out that it had been a year since the decision to void his warranty on the grounds of “missed rehabilitation.” He mentioned having evidence, like footage and GPS data, indicating he had met recovery benchmarks even before his injury, well within the recovery period set by his doctor.
In another post, he indicated he wasn’t planning on seeking reinstatement, saying, “I have no intention of getting back with them or doing any business with them. I am focused on getting back on the field this season! #RAISEHAIL.”
This ongoing conflict has allowed the 49ers to keep Aiyuk on their “left team list,” meaning he remains part of the team without counting against the roster or earning a salary.
The tension between Aiyuk and the 49ers has become one of the more intense player-team conflicts in NFL history. Aiyuk has expressed interest in playing for another team, specifically the Washington Commanders, where he would reunite with his former Arizona State teammate, Jaden Daniels.
The 49ers don’t seem particularly concerned. At this point, it feels like Aiyuk is far from returning to the NFL anytime soon.
