Brandon Blackstock, the ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away at the age of 48 on August 7. He died peacefully at home in Butte, Montana, surrounded by family while under hospice care. According to Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis, the cause of death was melanoma, a form of skin cancer.
Family representatives confirmed his death shortly after, expressing deep sadness over the news. They noted that Blackstock had bravely battled cancer for over three years before succumbing to the disease.
On the day of his passing, Clarkson announced a postponement of her Las Vegas shows due to a family emergency, stating that she needed to be fully present for her children during such a difficult time. She mentioned keeping her personal life away from the spotlight, but felt it necessary to put family first since her ex-husband was seriously ill.
The couple, who wed in 2013, finalized their divorce in March 2022. Despite their turbulent split, Clarkson remained focused on their two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander, aiming to shield them from any upheaval. Sources indicated she was protective of Blackstock even after their divorce, especially as he faced health challenges.
Though the public was aware of their complicated relationship, Clarkson consistently prioritized her children’s well-being. After Blackstock’s passing, tributes poured in, including one from his brother Shelby, who shared heartfelt thoughts about the impact of his loss on their family. Shelby described Brandon as a vibrant and integral part of their lives, and reflected on how deeply he would be missed.
While Kelly Clarkson has not publicly commented extensively on Blackstock’s death, her focus remains on navigating this challenging period with as much grace as possible for her family.
