Port St. Lucy – Brandon Nemo didn't get the chance to test his right knee, but he was pleased to stand up to a familiar post on Monday.
The outfielder first began this spring on the left field after dealing with pain in his right knee, which reduced his activity in Grapefruitrigue.
Nemo previously served as DH in three game appearances.
“I'm just listening [the knee] Nemo said the day the Mets lost 2-0 to the Rays at Clover Park.
Nemo said part of the reason he chose Monday for his debut in his outfield this spring was allowing him to rest the next day.
“But we're coming to an end here and we need to make decisions about playing the field and ding,” Nemo said. “I wanted to go there because it responds really well in a controlled setting.”
Nemo refrained from running most of the offseason when he rested after a PRP injection for plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
He estimated on Monday that he was running at about 90% full speed as he was dealing with knee issues.
“Where I'm in, we're on the downhill side of this, so I'm pretty optimistic,” Nemo said. “Good timing on the first day.”
Jesse Winker left the game after reaching for the calf while running to one base in the first inning.
The outfielder's suspicion that it was convulsion was confirmed by the team's training staff. Turn signal doesn't expect to miss out on any further action.
Ryan Clifford was selected for the All-Spring breakout team after starting a home run to center field in the event.
Clifford has given the Mets prospect a 5-1 victory over national counterparts.
Luis de Los Santos, Anthony Gose, Joey Meneses, Sean Reid-Foley and Chris Williams have been reassigned to minor league camps.
The Mets left 44 players in Major League camp.
