MILWAUKEE — If Brandon Nimmo had any help with that ninth-inning single, he knows where it came from.
In the clubhouse, which was buzzing with celebration after the Mets defeated the Brewers 4-2 at American Family Field and advanced to the National League Division Series, Nimmo remembered his grandmother's death just before the game. He revealed that he learned that he had passed away.
“Today was just a huge roller coaster of emotions,” Nimmo said after hitting the bases with the game-tying single that preceded Pete Alonso's go-ahead three-run home run. “It opened things up for me.”
When Nemo heard the news, he participated in a game where he could go home if he won.
He believes his grandmother would have understood what was going to happen next.
“If we could have scored four runs in the ninth inning and turned it around, she would have been happy about it and would have been rooting for us,” Nimmo said.
