Tragic Loss of Three Fathers in South Carolina
The recent deaths of three fathers off the coast of South Carolina have left a community in mourning. Anderson “Chase” Childers, a 38-year-old former police officer and baseball player from Dallas, Georgia, was vacationing on Pawleys Island when tragedy struck. Reports indicate that he, along with another individual, rescued five swimmers from danger, but sadly, the children did not survive the ordeal.
“He didn’t hesitate. He jumped in and swam to them,” said Paulies Island Police Commissioner Michael Fanning. “I believe he saw someone or heard something beyond where these people were and went out to help them.”
The local police took to social media to acknowledge his bravery, stating, “he died trying to save others.”
At APX 4:45 PM, I was asked by multiple swimmers struggling near Shell Road Ocean. One person has disappeared and a search has begun. We arrived on site to help. The missing man was recovered at approximately 6:15 PM. We have a family in prayer.

Childers had a notable background, playing baseball at Georgia State University before moving on to the Baltimore Orioles minor league system. After his sports career, he served with the Cobb County Police Department, where he earned a Lifetime Achievement Award for his life-saving efforts.
A GoFundMe page has been established to support his wife, Natalie, and their three young children, ages 6, 9, and 10. Over $100,000 has already been raised.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chase was known as a “skilled fisherman” and someone who could bring his visions to life as a builder.
“Most importantly, he was a beloved son, a devoted brother, a precious friend, and an exceptional father,” shared his family. “With heroic deeds, he saved a family of five. On that Sunday afternoon, he placed his life above his own.”
It is a tragedy that, after giving everything he had to save others, he couldn’t keep afloat as a riptide overcame him. His legacy of kindness, courage, and love will not be forgotten.
His mother, Nancy Childers, reflected on her son’s character, stating, “That was him. Pain and heartbreak are hard to bear, but God is near the brokenhearted and carries us through this incredibly difficult time.” She asked for continued prayers for her family, especially for Chase’s wife and their beloved children.
