On Monday, a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Hawaii descended into complete chaos after passengers and crew members were forced to break up a midair fight between two travelers.

“I heard screams, screams and punches. I turned around and saw one man bleeding and another man being pulled away,” said Jim, a passenger on Southwest Airlines Flight 1288.・Mr. Wieder told the magazine.
Video of the incident shows a man wearing a gray hoodie approach another man in the seat and slap him on the arm. A man dressed in gray then began punching the other passenger, landing multiple punches on him in the face before being separated by flight attendants and other travelers.
A woman and a man in blue hoodies, later identified as “Dan,” defused the situation by calmly speaking to the aggressive man and physically separating him while maintaining eye contact.
“They are my parents. Small business owners on Kauai. They are very kind people and are well-loved by the loyal locals on the west side. [the] Island,” a source told Kauai Airbnb, the original uploader of the footage.
The owner of the Instagram page also wrote that “apparently alcohol and possibly a violation of personal space” contributed to the fight.

“Frankly, I was a little nervous because you’re at 35,000 feet and you’re two guys swinging at each other, so it just doesn’t make any sense,” Wieder said.
Another witness said the plane continued its flight toward Kauai.
“We commend the professionalism of our crew and customers. [defusing] This is the situation,” Southwestern officials said in a statement. “The plane landed safely at its scheduled destination and was met by local authorities upon arrival.”
Both men were detained after landing, but it is unclear whether they will face any charges.
The U.S. Department of Transportation posted a reminder on X that violent air travelers could face prosecution and a $37,000 fine.
