Brazilian Tourist Passes Away After Falling Into Indonesian Volcano During Failed Rescue Efforts

Allegations of Negligence in Death of Brazilian Tourist in Indonesia

A Brazilian woman’s tragic fall off a cliff near an active volcano in Indonesia has sparked claims of negligence and incompetence during the rescue efforts that ultimately failed.

Reports indicate that 26-year-old Juliana Mullins was hiking with friends on Mount Rinjani, a well-known tourist spot in Southeast Asia.

Her family now alleges that negligence was a factor in her death, suggesting that she was left alone with a tour guide after expressing fatigue and needing a break.

“We learned this from contacts working in the park,” her sister Mariana shared. “Juliana was part of a group, but she was very tired and asked to stop for a while. They moved on, and the guide wasn’t with her.”

Mullins was discovered days later, hindered by thick fog and challenging conditions, Brazilian authorities reported.

Her family took to social media to accuse the rescue team of mishandling the situation, arguing that if they had reached her within the expected seven-hour timeframe, she might have survived. One post reflected their frustration: “Juliana suffered major negligence from the rescue team. She deserves more! We will seek justice for her!”

Initial cries for help from Mullins were reportedly heard by witnesses, and drone footage revealed she was still alive shortly after the fall.

Additionally, local rescue head Muhammad Haryadi noted that she was trapped in soft sand, complicating rescue efforts. Authorities mentioned that there had been two unsuccessful attempts to reach her.

“After four days of challenging weather, terrain, and visibility conditions, a team from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Bureau located the body of the Brazilian tourist,” stated the Brazilian government.
