‘Breaking Bad’ Actor Giancarlo Esposito Launches Intense Criticism of ICE

Giancarlo Esposito Calls for Change at Sundance

At the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, actor Giancarlo Esposito made headlines by voicing his concerns about ICE’s actions in Minnesota and declared, “it’s time for a revolution.”

During a conversation with Variety, Esposito discussed the political climate surrounding the premiere of his new crime thriller, *New York’s Only Living Pickpocket*. This discussion followed the tragic shooting of Renee Good and Alex Preti during a federal operation earlier in January.

Esposito asserted, “It’s time for a revolution – and they don’t even realize they’re starting it. We have to stand up. They can’t defeat us all.”

He further reflected on the potential consequences of mass protests, implying that if enough people challenged powerful figures globally, the reaction could be severe. Esposito mentioned, “If the whole world showed up on Putin’s doorstep, or the Iranians’ doorstep, or Washington, they would kill 500 million people or 50 million people or whatever. But the rest of us will survive on the new one.”

The actor criticized what he sees as the manipulative tactics of wealthy individuals, stating, “Some very wealthy old white men are using their power to oppress their own people, creating an atmosphere of civil war in the streets, preparing haters to hate, and teaching them how to shoot guns.” He cautioned fans about the deeper issues at play, describing it as “a very insidious problem that is happening in our world.”

Esposito expressed his commitment to highlight these concerns, stating, “I have to speak out. We will not be removed from ICE. That’s not going to happen.” Additionally, a number of celebrities have shown support by wearing “ICE Out” pins, with Esposito’s co-star Tatiana Maslany proudly donning one that says “Artist for Ceasefire.”
