About half of viewers of the hit Bible-based series Chosen person They’re not Christians, according to new data showing the reach and influence of the show, which had humble beginnings but is now available on major platforms like Netflix and Prime.
The series started in 2017, but quickly took off during the 2020 pandemic, and season 4 is currently out. Episodes 7-8 will premiere at the box office on Thursday. Eventually, all of Season 4 will be available to watch for free. Was chosen App.
Katherine Warnock, vice president of original content, said: Chosen personshared details of the new study with Christian Headlines.
“Recently, we had data showing that about half. [of viewers] They were either practical Christians or cultural Christians. And the other half were either interested in Christianity or simply did not believe in Christianity. And we were very surprised by that,” Warnock told Christian Headline.
The faith data wasn’t the only surprising thing about the study, she said.
“We were also surprised by the level of Gen Z and below that was watching our show, because our core audience is definitely Millennials and above,” she said. . “But not just the balance of women and men watching our show, which is great, because sometimes the church isn’t that balanced. And not only the younger generation, but also the balance of Christianity. I can see the unbelieving audience coming in.’ It’s so much fun to have a seat at the table. ”
She said creator Dallas Jenkins and his writing team have a goal of reaching all demographics.
“When Dallas and the writers say, ‘We want you to introduce the world to the real Jesus,’ they mean it,” Warnock said.
The Biblical Jesus attracted “all kinds of people and worldviews,” she noted. Warnock and her team recently heard from a fan of the series who is agnostic and says she often cries while watching.
Meanwhile, Warnock confirmed Season 5. Chosen person We spotlight Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem during Holy Week. Seasons 6 and 7 will include the crucifixion and resurrection, respectively, she said.
