During a Sunday interview, Education Secretary Linda McMahon said she didn’t rule out the possibility that Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could be involved in school vaccination policies.
In a CNN “State of the Union” interview, McMahon stated, “That’s a bit off, looking at making sure there’s funding for children with disabilities.” When pressed by CNN’s Dana Bash, “Is that no?”, McMahon replied, “That’s not necessarily a no. Now, the Department of Education is simply saying that it doesn’t control vaccinations or anything like that in the state through funding for children with disabilities.”
Trump announced on Friday that he is shifting programs for students with disabilities to HHS, hoping to ultimately eliminate the education sector. He stated, “Bobby Kennedy of the Department of Health and Human Services will handle all special needs and all nutritional programs and everything else.”
The announcement came a day after Trump signed McMahon’s executive order to dismantle the education division as long as it is legally allowed. The department cannot be completely eliminated without Congressional actions, but the Trump administration plans to abolish Congress-mandated programs and move them to other federal agencies.
