Breece Hall, Mekhi Becton comment on issues with Jets’ Keith Carter

Jets assistant Keith Carter may not be popular at Florham Park.

Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton and running back Breece Hall ripped the Jets' offensive line coach and run game coordinator from the post, but neither mentioned Carter by name.

Former Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan first mentioned Carter in a post saying he fired Mike Vrabel, the head coach at Tennessee, where he played.

“I loved him as a coach (except for 2018), and I loved the coaching staff (other than Keith Carter). It was a lot of work, but it was always worth it.” Ruwan posted on Instagram.

Becton, a pending free agent, commented on the post but later deleted his remarks.

“Paragraph 2 is not just a fact 💯” Posted by Becton.

Hall then tweeted a post from a Jets fan that highlighted Lewan's passage praising Vrabel and criticizing Carter.

“😂😂😂😂😂” Mr. Hall tweeted.

It's certainly possible that Becton and Hall were simply buying into what they said about Vrabel, but you don't have to be an Aaron Rodgers-level conspiracy theorist to be excited about the two Jets coaches they work with on a daily basis. I understand that you may not have done so. Basics.

Former Falcons fullback Patrick DiMarco, who was coached by Carter in Atlanta, agreed with Lewan's post, saying, “Keith Carter wasn't anyone's favorite coach, but I'm confident I can say that,” he commented.

Carter joined the Jets last season after serving as the Titans' offensive line coach for the past five seasons.

The Jets' offensive line struggled under Carter, ranking at the bottom of the league with 96.9 rushing yards per game.

Coach Robert Saleh said Carter would return to the team in 2024 and praised his work in 2023.

“I think he did a really great job.” Saleh said on Monday.. “Like all of us, he has things he needs to improve on. His first year in this system, going through so many changes and coaching a lot of young guys who came here in the middle of the season. I thought he did a really good job.

“Our run game has gotten better and better. Brees and our outside zone scheme have really taken off in the last few weeks. This is the first year of a full rotation system, but it has improved as the year goes on. I thought it was possible and he did a really great job.”

Becton may no longer need to worry about once Carter leaves in free agency, but Hall is locked in as one of the Jets' star players.
