Rangers Make Roster Changes Ahead of Season

The Rangers have just made a significant roster move, sending Brennan Osman to the AHL Wolfpack. This comes after the recent performances of Gabe Perot and Brett Berard, who have garnered attention for their play.

“They showed great potential, and I believe they’ve earned their spots here,” coach Mike Sullivan remarked. He praised the team’s hard work, noting that their performance justified their inclusion.

Osman’s situation is a bit different. After struggling during a tough first game in New Jersey on September 21, he didn’t quite find his footing, despite showing some improvements. While every player’s growth is unique, this early exit is a little disheartening.

Reflecting on his discussions with Osman, Sullivan mentioned that they had plenty of talks throughout the preseason, even before training camp began. It’s all about focusing on the details—especially on defense.

As the season opener on October 7 approaches, Perot, Laba, and Berard may find it challenging to secure spots on the final roster. If the Rangers sign Connor Cearly and decide to keep Johnny Brozinski, it’s unclear how the young players fit into the plans.

While Sullivan acknowledged that the current roster may change, he emphasized that it’s part of the process. There are still decisions to be made as the team looks to establish a solid lineup.

As of now, the Rangers have nine defenders, including notable names like Vlad Gabrikov and Adam Fox, ready to step up. The competition for the seventh defensive spot is particularly intense, with Casey Fitzgerald and Scott Morrow both in the running.

Making these decisions isn’t straightforward, Sullivan noted. There’s a significant responsibility to ensure the young players develop in a way that best suits their individual needs.

In the latest practice, JT Miller experienced some lower-body issues and was pulled from the ice. The team is monitoring his situation closely. Additionally, Sam Carrick is dealing with some ongoing lower-body problems but was seen skating before practice.

With two preseason matches remaining—against the Devils and in Boston—the Rangers are gearing up for the upcoming season.
