Brett Favre Talks Trump Support in Interview
Brett Favre, the Pro Football Hall of Famer, was one of President Donald Trump’s notable supporters during the 2024 reelection campaign. As a prominent figure in sports, he made headlines after speaking at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, prior to the election.
Trump went on to defeat then-President Wiese and Vice President Kamala Harris, securing victory in Wisconsin.
In a recent chat with sports host Sage Steele, Favre discussed his backing for Trump, describing it as a “common sense” decision. He recalled considering a meeting in Green Bay where Trump had asked him to speak.
“There’s this divide, right? You’re either here or there. I thought, if I could sway even just five voters, it could make a difference. If I didn’t step up, I’d regret it,” he explained.
“Public speaking isn’t really my thing, especially in a political sense. But being asked was an honor. Do I agree with everything Trump says? No. But do I think boys competing in girls’ sports is fair? Absolutely not. When it comes to issues like illegal immigration and crime—what’s acceptable there?”
Favre also mentioned that he sensed some supporters on the left were questioning whether the current direction of the country was something they’d want to continue endorsing.
He expressed that he couldn’t just bask in his past glories. “People on the left should really take a moment to reflect when they think no one’s watching. It felt like a conservative audience, kind of waiting for something sensible to happen,” he added.
Favre, who played for the Packers from 1992 to 2007, noted that merely hoping for change without action would lead to further decline. He remarked that the left wasn’t really silent, despite a sense of complacency among some.
He clarified that while he wasn’t looking to enter politics, he wouldn’t dial down his opinions. “I’d love to ride off into the sunset and enjoy life, but we need to stand up. I wish things would change, but they haven’t,” he stated.
