Brewers Manager Pat Murphy Faces Extended Recovery

Pat Murphy, the Milwaukee Brewers’ manager, may be sidelined for quite some time due to health issues.

During a press conference on Saturday, Murphy revealed that he had surgery on his back on Thursday and is scheduled for another procedure on his hip during the upcoming All-Star break.

While he didn’t go into specifics about the surgeries, he mentioned that the problems with his back were linked to his hip joint, and the pain had intensified recently.

“I can’t live like that,” Murphy shared. “I had surgery, and it went well.”

At 67, Murphy has seen success in his role, having been honored as the National League Manager of the Year for the last two seasons. This is his third year leading the Brewers.

Before the start of the 2026 season, he signed a three-year contract, positioning him among the highest-paid managers in Major League Baseball. Under his leadership, the team boasts a 45-29 record and leads the National League Central Division.

Notably, Murphy has a reputation for his strict coaching approach. Recently, he publicly addressed a situation involving Brewers relief pitcher Abner Uribe, whom he called out for his behavior during a game against the Cardinals in May.

In that game, Uribe struck out a Cardinals player and then performed a flamboyant gesture directed towards the opposing team. Murphy stated, “I don’t know what got into him. Sure, he’s emotional, but that’s not how we conduct ourselves. It was embarrassing. Why would you do that, especially in a 6-0 game?”

He further expressed his affection for Uribe, acknowledging the positive contributions he’s made. However, Murphy firmly stated, “What he did is unacceptable. We can’t tolerate that.” He concluded by emphasizing the importance of maintaining standards for the benefit of the team.
