Brian Daboll’s Future After Giants Release
Getting let go by the Giants might actually turn out well for Brian Daboll.
On Monday, Deanna Russini from The Athletic mentioned that Daboll’s name has been mentioned frequently following the Bills’ surprising decision to fire Sean McDermott.
Daboll, who has a strong bond with quarterback Josh Allen, joined the Bills in 2018. He spent four successful years as their offensive coordinator before taking the head coach position with the Giants.
In his first season with the Giants, Daboll found some early success, posting a 9-7-1 record and guiding the team to a win over the Vikings in the wild-card playoffs.
However, things didn’t sustain. Daboll’s tenure began to falter, and he ended up with a 20-40-1 overall record, leading to his firing on November 10, 2025. Daniel Jones, who had shown promise under Daboll, struggled significantly, which culminated in the Giants releasing him last season.
Daboll was responsible for preparing Jackson Dart for a rookie season that was, well, impressive. But after a series of tough losses, he found himself out of a job.
Interestingly, Daboll is being considered for the Titans’ head coaching role, though Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy appears to be the frontrunner.
The Bills moved on from Daboll by hiring Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator for two seasons, before bringing in Joe Brady after Dorsey’s dismissal.
Allen has maintained a high level of play, regardless of who has been calling the plays. Yet, the team has consistently struggled to break through in the playoffs.
The Bills have faced ongoing challenges in postseason matchups, particularly against the Chiefs, suffering a heart-wrenching loss to the Broncos recently.
In that overtime game, referees ruled that receiver Brandin Cooks didn’t catch Allen’s deep pass. Instead, it was intercepted by Denver’s Jaquan McMillan, paving the way for the Broncos to secure a winning field goal.
Just two days later, the Bills decided to part ways with McDermott, who had been with the organization for nine years.
“Sean has done a great job leading our football team over the past nine seasons, but we feel a new structure within our leadership is needed to give this organization the best opportunity to take the team to the next level,” said owner Terry Pegula in a statement.
In a shift in roles, GM Brandon Beane has now been promoted to team president and will take charge of finding the next head coach.
