Brian Urlacher’s Take on Bears’ Future Stadium Plans
It seems evident that Brian Urlacher isn’t too keen on the idea of the Bears potentially playing in a dome. Recently, the conversation has sparked regarding the possibility of the Bears relocating to sites in Indiana or Illinois, and Urlacher—a former linebacker for the team—shared his thoughts on “This Is Football.”
“Honestly, I don’t like the idea of the Bears playing anywhere but Soldier Field,” Urlacher commented. “Even if they move to Arlington Heights or somewhere in Indiana, they’ll end up in a dome, and I’m just not a fan of that.”
He expressed concerns that if the Bears play indoors, they might forfeit the home-field advantage they typically enjoy when playing outdoors in the chilly Chicago winters. The team is accustomed to the cold, unlike their opponents who might struggle.
“That’s really the Bears’ only edge,” Urlacher noted. “Going to Soldier Field in November or December? It’s going to be rough. The weather won’t be pleasant, and that can be tough on visiting teams. Playing and practicing in those conditions? There’s an advantage in that.”
Over the years, Soldier Field has witnessed its fair share of games in poor weather, including a notable 2026 Wild Card Round match where the Bears showcased dominance over the Packers in a snow-laden field.
On June 5, the Bears’ board of directors advanced the plans for a stadium in Hammond, Indiana, marking a significant stride toward leaving Illinois. However, even with this announcement, there remains no certainty about the team’s departure.
While the potential move to Indiana still stands, a league source revealed to ESPN, “Illinois can still make a strong case.”
For now, the Bears will continue to play in Chicago until at least 2026, aiming to improve upon their promising 2025 season, which concluded with an 11-6 record and a spot in the divisional round.
The Bears will kick off their 2026 season on September 13, facing off against the Panthers on the road.
