Bride surprises stunned guests with outrageous $500 charge

She’s taken cash grabbing to a whole new level.

In an unusual move, a bride-to-be has implemented what many are calling an “absurd” fee for her wedding guests, essentially asking them to contribute to her lavish celebration, almost like a GoFundMe request. A Reddit user recounted their experience, claiming they were told the costs of accommodation would be covered when, in reality, guests would need to pay $500 each to attend.

“We were informed that the venue would handle the lodging,” the anonymous poster noted, but just two months before the wedding, the bride dropped the bombshell that attending would cost them.

Unfortunately, the unexpected fees didn’t stop there.

Another guest investigated the charges and shared, “The website mentioned fees that include access for all guests, which was likely going to bring in more money than just what the venue costs.” It seems the couple is aiming to profit off their big day.

On top of that, they’re also asking guests for cash contributions towards their honeymoon, with one user revealing that they even set up a GoFundMe page with multiple $10,000 goals for various honeymoon experiences.

This trend of asking for money at weddings isn’t exactly new. The rising costs of weddings, especially in the U.S.— where the average ceremony can exceed $26,000— have led some couples to put financial pressure on their guests. For instance, one couple in New York made headlines when they charged their guests $333 each to witness their nuptials.

Many users on Reddit expressed outrage over this practice, labeling it “despicable” and “cheap.” One commenter candidly suggested telling the bride that the request made them feel “allergic” to her money-seeking ways.

Another user echoed this sentiment, arguing that if guests were merely covering hotel costs, they should pay the hotel directly rather than funneling money through the couple. “This person is planning everything to suit her desires and expecting her guests to foot the bills. It’s just not right,” said one disappointed responder.

In light of such practices, many wonder how far these couples will go to recoup their wedding expenses. For attendees feeling the burden, the prospect of paying to celebrate someone else’s love may feel more like an obligation than a joyful occasion.
