Brit Hume says voters may ask if Trump picked Vance because he 'sucked up effectively’

Fox News analyst Brit Hume questioned former President Trump’s choice of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate, arguing that Vance’s Harsh criticism in the past Trump’s.

Hume argued that voters might come to question why Vance was the nominee over other strong contenders.

“You start to wonder: How did this guy get the job? Did he get the job because he was the best person to be president? Or did he get the job because he was good at sucking up to candidates? People are going to be asking that question.”

Before joining Trump’s inner circle, Vance was a fierce critic of the president, once calling himself an “anti-Trump” and, during the 2016 campaign, calling Trump a “total con man,” a “moral disaster” and an “American Hitler.”

But he has since aligned himself with Trump and received his endorsement to run for Senate in 2022. Vance also supported Trump’s baseless claims that he won the 2020 election, and said he would have looked into fraudulent electoral votes if he were vice president, when then-Vice President Mike Pence rejected them on January 6, 2021.

“This may remind some of what J.D. Vance said about Donald Trump,” Hume warned.

Vance is 39 years old and a political novice with less than two years of election experience, but some Republicans have welcomed his selection as someone who could strengthen support for Trump among younger conservative voters.

“JD has had a very successful business career in technology and finance, and now during this election cycle he will focus on the people he fought so well for – American workers and farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and far beyond,” Trump said.
