Former British Ambassador Arrested in Epstein Investigation
The Metropolitan Police in London has reported the arrest of Peter Mandelson, who served as the British ambassador to the United States, over allegations of official misconduct linked to the Epstein scandal.
Lord Mandelson, aged 72, was apprehended on Monday. Notably, this occurred under similar circumstances to those involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew. As detailed by CNBC, Mandelson’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been under police scrutiny. While his name wasn’t included in the standard police report, images of his arrest being carried out at his residence emerged on the same day.
“He was arrested during a speech in Camden and taken to a London police station for questioning,” stated the Metropolitan Police, as quoted by CNBC.
This development follows search warrants executed at two properties in Wiltshire and Camden. The authorities added, “To avoid compromising the integrity of the investigation, we cannot disclose further details at this stage.”
Earlier this February, Mandelson left his position in the House of Lords. The investigation is focused on allegations that he provided market-sensitive information to Epstein during the 2009-2010 financial crisis when he was a government minister. In 2025, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer dismissed Mandelson after details of his relationship with Epstein became public, despite Mandelson having consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Mountbatten-Windsor, King Charles III’s brother, was released from police custody on Thursday. However, specifics regarding the investigations into both men remain largely undisclosed. Following the arrest of Mountbatten-Windsor, the king expressed support for the police inquiry involving his sibling.
The Crown emphasized a commitment to a “full, fair, and appropriate process” in investigating these matters, stating that they would fully cooperate with the proper authorities. “Let me be clear: the law should proceed in that direction,” he commented.
