A British woman and three children linked to the Islamic State militant group in Syria were handed over to a British delegation visiting the region this week, Syrian Kurdish-led authorities said on Friday.
The handover on Wednesday was the latest in efforts to repatriate tens of thousands of people from the al-Hol and Loj camps in northeastern Syria, which are home to mostly wives and children of IS fighters but also supporters of the extremist group.
Kurdish authorities did not release the names of the four, saying only that they had been held in Loj camp before being returned.

The statement said a delegation led by Anne Snow, Britain’s special representative for Syria, visited northeast Syria and held talks with Kurdish authorities about the threat posed by IS five years after the militants lost the last shreds of land they once controlled across much of Iraq and Syria.

“A fundamental solution must be found to the problem of terrorism,” said Elham Ahmad, co-chairman for foreign relations for the Syrian Kurdistan Regional Government.
She added that the thousands of IS members and suspects held in prisons in northeastern Syria must face justice.
In 2014, IS declared a caliphate over large swaths of Iraq and Syria and attracted tens of thousands of supporters from around the world. The militants were defeated by a US-led coalition in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria in 2019.

Tens of thousands of people associated with the group have been deported to al-Hol refugee camp near the Iraqi border.
About 30,000 Iraqis and Syrians have left Al Hol camp to return to their home countries over the past five years, while more than 2,000 remain held in Loj camp.
Earlier this month, the United States announced the repatriation of 11 of its citizens from the Al Hol and Loj refugee camps, the largest number of people ever repatriated by Washington from the two sprawling refugee camps.
In early May, more than 200 Syrians were deported from al-Hol to their homes in eastern Syria, bordering Iraq.
