Tragic Alligator Attack in Florida
In Miami, Brittany Clark’s boyfriend, Chance Allison, shared the heart-wrenching details of her alligator attack on Friday. At first, he thought it was some kind of sick joke when a massive alligator appeared from a river and attacked her. The moments felt endless.
The incident happened during a hiking trip on Sunday with Allison and their roommate, Jayden Hernandez, when the 13-foot alligator struck in the Econlockhatchee River located in Little Big Econ State Forest in central Florida.
“For the first couple of seconds, I was in disbelief,” Allison, 30, explained. “Then it hit me—she was serious. I felt like I had to jump in and help. I just wanted to grab her.”
Allison attempted to rescue Clark, who was bitten by the alligator. “It felt like forever, but I think it was only around 30 or 40 seconds,” he recalled.
Clark’s friend, Hernandez, mentioned that moments before the attack, they had noticed bubbles in the water and joked about the possibility of an alligator lurking nearby.
Recently released body camera footage showed the frantic efforts of Florida deputies as they tried to save Clark. Officers rushed through the underbrush to reach the sandy shores of the river.
In the footage, Clark can be seen under the tent she had set up for shade from the intense Florida sun. Allison remarked on how they had been aware of alligators in the area but had previously gone swimming there without any issues.
Allison’s Ongoing Grief and Plans
Reflecting on the attack, he described it as one of the most terrifying experiences of his life. “The first few nights after were filled with nightmares,” he admitted.
While he has received tremendous support from friends, family, and even strangers, he expressed frustration that such a tragedy could occur. “This shouldn’t have happened to her; she was a wonderful person with so much potential,” he said, still in shock.
Allison, who operates a trash can hauling business, is organizing an event to celebrate Clark’s life. “I’ll be posting about it on Facebook to invite her friends. Finding a big enough venue might be a challenge; I expect many to show up.”
Before being rushed to the hospital, Clark’s last words were a request for Allison to take care of his dog, Hokey. Along with their hiking companion, Bulma, a German shepherd, they had also brought along Allison’s pit bull mix.
Now, Allison has adopted both Hokey and Clark’s cat, Shady, and they all reside together with Bulma. His focus is on cherishing memories and honoring Clark’s life.
