Actress Ilana Glazer, Comedy Central star broad citylamented that Texas is a “really dangerous” state for women because of its restrictions on abortion.
Appeared at the SXSW Film Festival to promote the film. babesGlazer, whose film follows two women as they grapple with the trials and tribulations of motherhood, called Texas’ policies “literally horrifying.”
“The policies here in Texas are literally horrible. It’s really dangerous to be a femme or have a female body in Texas,” Glaser said. “I’m excited to be here to show you a story called Babes about new kinds of families, different kinds of families, and women making choices about their bodies and the families they want to have and the families they don’t want to have. I’m very proud.”
The comments came as reporters said: austin american politician We asked Glazer, Michelle Buteau, and director Pamela Adlon what it meant to make their debut feature about pregnancy and motherhood in a state like Texas.
“I think it’s a comedian’s job to set important themes and find laughter in pain and setbacks. We run into a burning building, but we don’t run from it,” Buteau said. That’s why I say that.”

Abortion is relatively prohibited in Texas, except on the mother’s life or in other extreme cases. These new restrictions will result in about 16,000 additional births in the Lone Star State in 2022.
