NFL Suspends Dre Greenlaw for Unsportsmanlike Conduct
The NFL has suspended linebacker Dre Greenlaw of the Denver Broncos due to unsportsmanlike behavior directed at an official during a nail-biting victory over the New York Giants, which ended 33-32.
According to league officials, Greenlaw was seen pursuing and apparently threatening umpire Brad Allen as he attempted to exit the field after Will Lutz kicked the game-winning field goal.
As players from the Broncos rushed to celebrate Lutz’s kick, the footage captured Allen signaling the end of the game. In it, Greenlaw can be heard shouting while chasing Allen. Teammate Que Robinson intervened, trying to pull Greenlaw away from the umpire, but the referee issued a penalty against him.
Greenlaw now has a three-day window to appeal the league’s decision.
This game marked Greenlaw’s return after he signed with the Broncos in the offseason. Last year was quite challenging for him; he only played in two games as he was recovering from a torn Achilles tendon sustained during the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl appearance against the Kansas City Chiefs. At 28, he has competed in 65 games throughout his seven-year NFL career, amassing a total of 461 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Following this victory, the Broncos improved their record to 5-2. They are set to host the Dallas Cowboys in their next matchup at Empower Field at Mile High in Week 8.
