Brooke Hanlon killing: NJ therapist stabbed, no suspect identified

Family in Distress After Therapist’s Murder in New Jersey

The sibling of Brooke Hanlon, a New Jersey therapist who was killed in her home, describes their experience as a “complete nightmare.” This tragedy occurred in a wealthy area, raising concerns within the community.

Hanlon’s sister shared her feelings exclusively, reflecting on the situation a month after the gruesome discovery. Authorities are still on the lookout for a suspect related to the incident.

It’s been exactly a month since the tragic event on June 6, when the 35-year-old mother was found lifeless in her Chester residence. As of now, investigators have not announced any suspects.

“Brooke was the kindest, most genuine person I’ve ever known,” said Paige Haggerty, Hanlon’s sister, who added that she learned everything from her sister. “I can’t imagine life without her,” she commented, clearly overwhelmed by grief.

Investigation into Homicide

According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Medical Examiner has concluded that the cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries, definitively ruling it a homicide.

Brooke Hanlon and her husband James “Connor” Hanlon were married in June 2021 after meeting in Boston, where she was working at that time.

The couple settled in their Chester home in September 2024, acquiring it for $535,900, records indicate. Just a year later, they welcomed a child, who will soon celebrate his first birthday without his mother. Haggerty expressed that the baby is currently safe and is being looked after by family.

“The baby is our only saving grace,” she said, emphasizing the bittersweet joy the child brings to the grieving family. “We still have a piece of Brooke with us.” Her emotional struggle was palpable as she described the unimaginable pain of losing her sister.

Brooke Hanlon was well-respected in her field, holding a degree in psychology from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in counseling from Northeastern University. She was a psychotherapist at Life Stance in Bernardsville, having previously worked with families in Boston.

The investigation continues, with Morris County Crime Stoppers offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest. Sadly, although investigators remain dedicated, no suspects or persons of interest have been named yet.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Chester community and left the Hanlon family grappling with their immense loss.
