Brooke Rollins Declares 'Total Overhaul' of USDA

USDA to Undergo Major Restructuring

On Thursday, US Secretary of Agriculture Brook Rollins announced a significant reorganization of the USDA, which will involve relocating many employees from Washington, D.C., to regional hubs across the country that are more accessible to key stakeholders.

In a video message, Rollins highlighted the importance of responding to the needs of American farmers, ranchers, and producers, and emphasized the goal of refocusing the USDA to serve these groups better. She mentioned that this restructuring aligns with President Trump’s commitment to streamline federal spending and enhance efficiency across agencies.

Rollins explained that the USDA plans to shift key office services out of D.C. to ensure proximity to those they serve, while also aiming to provide employees and their families with more affordable living conditions.

She has outlined a “stage-based plan” to move a considerable portion of the USDA’s workforce to five designated hub locations: Raleigh, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Fort Collins, Colorado; Salt Lake City, Utah; and, somewhat redundantly, Indiana, Indiana. Additionally, several office spaces in D.C. will be vacated, with only two offices remaining in use by federal agencies.

While Rollins noted that a majority of USDA employees are already based outside of Washington, she asserted that this transition is aimed at maintaining the USDA’s effectiveness in serving its core mission.

“We will approach this reorganization with transparency and common sense, ensuring that vital health and public safety services provided by the USDA remain intact for the American public,” she assured.

She also emphasized the importance of this new chapter in improving services for American farmers and producers, acknowledging that the changes might create some personal uncertainties for employees and their families. Rollins expressed a commitment to making the transition as smooth as possible in the coming months.

Recognizing that each employee’s situation is unique, she reassured them that the USDA is prepared to offer support during this transition.

This announcement comes on the heels of the launch of a National Farm Security Action Plan, aimed at promoting agricultural prosperity and strengthening the domestic food supply.

Rollins previously indicated that this initiative marks a “new day” for America as the Trump administration seeks to address global economic challenges while prioritizing American interests.
