Brother of Synagogue Attacker Allegedly Led Hezbollah, According to Israel

Security Guard Stops Active Shooter Who Crashed Explosives-Laden Car Into Synagogue

Hezbollah Connection in Michigan Synagogue Incident

Israeli officials reported on Sunday that the brother of a Lebanese immigrant, accused of attacking a Michigan synagogue, is a commander within Hezbollah, the Islamic extremist group.

Ayman Mohamed Ghazali took his own life after the attack, which was intercepted during a gunfight with security personnel at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) noted on Sunday that Ghazali’s brother leads a unit involved in launching rockets into Israel on behalf of an Iranian-backed militia.

“Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Muhammad Ghazali oversaw weapons operations for the Badr Force’s specialized division,” the IDF stated. “This group has been responsible for firing numerous rockets at Israeli civilians during the conflict. Ayman Muhammad Ghazali carried out a terrorist act in Michigan last Thursday. Ibrahim was killed in an IAF strike on a Hezbollah military installation last week.”

“Intelligence reveals: The brothers of the terrorists behind the synagogue attack were Hezbollah terrorists,” the IDF tweeted, providing further background on their operations.

No injuries were reported among the staff or children present during the attack, although the synagogue’s security director, Danny Phillips, who has 28 years of service with the Bloomfield Hills Police Department, sustained injuries. Local reports also indicated that the 30 law enforcement officers involved in search and rescue were treated for smoke inhalation.

The FBI’s Detroit branch had previously conducted “active shooter prevention and preparedness” training to prepare for potential incidents at synagogues. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard credited this training with saving lives during the incident.

“We recognize the presence of evil in the world, and we must respond appropriately,” Bouchard remarked to reporters. “They may not always be on anyone’s radar, but when they appear, that’s where preparation is crucial. The security team performed excellently. More details will follow, but they effectively neutralized the threat.”

Prior to the synagogue attack, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina had urged President Trump to support military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon after the group launched rockets indiscriminately at Israel.
