Cleveland Browns Rookie Quarterback Receives Traffic Tickets
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has reportedly been issued two traffic citations and missed an appearance in court.
According to reports, Sanders was pulled over on Tuesday in Strongsville, Ohio, for speeding—his vehicle was clocked at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone.
Records from the Medina Municipal Court indicate that the Ohio State Highway Patrol was involved in the incident, which took place just days before his June 6 appearance, where he failed to show up.
Details about the June 13 incident reveal that Sanders was traveling on Interstate 71 near Cleveland.
Browns spokesperson Peter John Baptist mentioned that, “He’s taking care of the tickets.”
After entering the April draft, Sanders had been projected as a potential first-round pick. It took me a few times to even catch his name being called during the draft; that’s how uncertain things felt.
Ultimately, he was taken 144th overall by the Browns. His draft slide began when the New York Giants moved up to select Jackson Dart at number 25. After that, three other quarterbacks—Tyler Shaw, Jalen Millow, and Dillon Gabriel—were also drafted ahead of him, with Gabriel ending up with the Browns as well.
Concerns about Sanders’ character had been swirling leading up to the draft. Just days before, an anonymous assistant coach described him as, “the worst official interview I’ve ever done in my life,” citing issues with his body language and lack of accountability.
In the weeks following his selection, CBS analysts recalled how Sanders skipped a production meeting that he was supposed to attend. He was scheduled to discuss the game against Colorado but didn’t show up, reportedly due to an injury.
This raised eyebrows, as quarterbacks typically play a significant role in such pre-game interactions. It made me think about what really goes into preparing for a game, and skipping out on those meetings? Not the best move.
After being drafted, Sanders expressed his gratitude on social media with a heartfelt message: “Thank you God.”
There’s still much to discover about Sanders as he competes with others for the Browns’ starting role. Joe Flacco is the veteran presence in the mix, while Kenny Pickett has also seen significant game time in the NFL. Both Dillon Gabriel and Sanders are part of Cleveland’s recent draft class, while Deshaun Watson aims to return stronger after addressing an Achilles injury. However, it’s uncertain whether he’ll be active for the 2025 season.
