Auburn men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl openly criticized Democratic strategist James Carville on Friday regarding Carville’s remarks about affluent Jewish donors who have distanced themselves from the Democratic Party.
On a recent Fox News segment, Pearl expressed strong disapproval of Carville’s comments, claiming they were damaging. He stated, “When a wealthy Jew claims he doesn’t pay taxes, that’s just fueling anti-Semitic sentiment,” during an interview with Bill Hemmer on “American Newsroom.” His dismay was evident, especially when reacting to Carville’s commentary.
Carville had remarked on his “Political War Room” podcast that he was halting contributions to Democratic figures. He criticized Jewish donors who have turned to support President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, suggesting their decisions were influenced by rising anti-Semitism from certain Democratic celebrities.
The former advisor to Bill Clinton offered no justification for why these donors chose to switch their political allegiance, merely suggesting they were motivated by potential financial gain from Trump’s tax policies.
“I’ve heard this many times… a lot of really wealthy Jewish fundraisers tell me, ‘James, I’m a Democrat, but I just can’t align with the party anymore because of what happened at Columbia,'” Carville reported.
Pearl responded on Fox, asserting that Jewish voters are increasingly leaving the Democratic Party, feeling alienated by what he characterized as a drift toward supporting anti-Semitic ideologies, particularly visible on college campuses.
“It’s outrageous for James Carville to make such claims. I’m not sure if he realizes the implications of his words,” Pearl remarked.
Pearl rebuffed Carville’s implication that Jewish Americans are merely seeking ways to reduce their tax obligations, clarifying that he, along with other successful Jewish individuals, believes in fair taxation.
“If this is what Democratic leadership looks like, then calling out a wealthy Jew in such a manner says a lot,” he added.
Pearl also commended Trump for his connection with the Jewish community and his support for Israel, noting, “No president has done as much for the Israeli state as Donald Trump has.”
