Support for Israel from Auburn Coach
Auburn Tigers men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl has been vocal about his support for Israel since the events that unfolded on October 7, 2023, following the attacks by Hamas.
In a recent interview, Pearl, who is also the chairman of the American Association of Israel Education, mentioned that he was advised to keep his social media focused on basketball and refrain from discussing his views on Israel.
He elaborated on his reasoning during a discussion on a podcast, questioning the education people receive regarding Middle Eastern history in schools. He noted that many grow up with a limited perspective, admitting, “Perhaps they think maybe the Jews… I don’t know.” It shows a gap in understanding that, according to him, stems from a lack of proper education on the subject.
Pearl achieved notable success with Auburn, leading the team to a 32-6 record and marking their first Final Four appearance since 2019, a significant milestone for the program.
His commitment to Israel is deeply rooted and parallels his passion for basketball. In April, he was appointed chair of the American Israeli Education Association.
In a news release at that time, Pearl expressed his dedication to educating young people about leadership, values, and the importance of diverse viewpoints. He remarked, “I’m eager to build a bridge of understanding between these two great nations.” His work aims to foster greater awareness and solidarity, aligning with his values and principles.
