Bruce Springsteen and Robert De Niro Critique Trump on Colbert’s Show
During a recent episode of Stephen Colbert’s show, renowned left-leaning figures Bruce Springsteen and Robert De Niro took the opportunity to criticize President Donald Trump.
Springsteen, known for his lengthy career, remarked soon after he was introduced, “Tonight, I’m here to support Stephen. You’re the first American to lose a show due to a president who can’t take jokes.” This was during Colbert’s penultimate episode. It’s interesting how humor can be so pivotal in public life, isn’t it?
Continuing his critique, he made a comment about Larry and David Ellison, implying that they felt the need to appease Trump for their personal gain. This seems to echo a broader sentiment among many artists about the intertwining of politics and entertainment.
While Springsteen pointed out that the show’s cancellation by CBS was linked to financial concerns—reportedly, a yearly loss of $40 million—he also suggested it was influenced by Trump. CBS, however, denied any political motivations behind the decision.
Springsteen further expressed, “These are small-minded people who have no grasp on what freedom truly means in this beautiful country.” He then launched into his protest song, “Streets of Minneapolis,” which was inspired by tragedies involving ICE protesters.
In a lighter segment, Colbert introduced a fun twist on his usual “Colbert Questionnato,” inviting celebrities like De Niro and others to ask questions on his behalf. De Niro, in his typical playful manner, quizzed about “the number” he was thinking of, leading to a humorous moment when he guessed incorrectly, attributing it to the number of Epstein files Trump hasn’t released yet. Colbert found this particularly amusing, rolling back on the couch in laughter.
This blend of humor and serious commentary seems to be a signature of Colbert’s style, making it relatable and engaging for the audience.
As the show approaches its end, it remains a platform for critical discourse, wrapped in moments of levity and celebrity interactions.
