Michelle Obama Reportedly Intervenes in Cheryl Hines’ Casting

Recent reports suggest that former first lady Michelle Obama reached out to actress Cheryl Hines to prevent her from being included in Larry David’s new HBO series. This came as a result of Hines’ marriage to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Insider sources claim that Hines was excluded from the left-leaning comedy titled “Life, Rally, and the Pursuit of Misfortune: Almost an American History,” despite her long history as a main cast member on David’s hit series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” This decision was said to be influenced by President Obama, who allegedly took steps to ensure Hines would not be part of the show’s cast, labeling her as a “constant presence” aligned with MAGA ideologies.

Both President and Michelle Obama serve as executive producers for the project through their production company, Higher Ground. Hines reportedly felt “shocked” by her exclusion, considering her close working relationship with David over the years.

A source close to Hines shared that she felt deeply hurt, emphasizing how they had formed a strong bond during their time together on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Hines had hoped for another opportunity to collaborate with David, believing he could separate personal politics from professional opportunities.

However, the directive to bar Hines came from Michelle Obama, and it seems David felt he had no choice but to comply. The source remarked that while David respected Hines as an actress, Michelle’s influence was undeniable. “The boss can’t be ignored,” the insider noted.

Another insider pointed out that Michelle Obama played a direct role in casting decisions, with little concern for the show’s creative direction. President Obama was reportedly “furious” when Hines’ name surfaced during early discussions about the cast, leading Michelle to assert, “We cannot and will not have that woman on this show. She is not one of us.”

This situation seems to highlight what some have termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” as Michelle’s actions are interpreted as personal animosity toward Hines due to her political associations. Sources indicated that the issue wasn’t Hines’ talent but rather her marriage to someone perceived as part of President Trump’s inner circle.

There have been suggestions that after her husband’s departure from the Democratic Party to join Trump’s administration, David’s relationship with Hines soured, and he distanced himself from her. Critiques of David’s new series have been harsh, with reviewers noting a lack of wit compared to his previous work, describing it as a blend of reused jokes and underwhelming content.

Ultimately, some outlets have characterized the show as “pretty bad,” with assertions that its humor is either poorly executed or incomprehensible, raising further questions about its reception among audiences.
