Bruce Springsteen, the legendary musician and vocal supporter of the Democratic Party, kicked off his “land of hope and dreams” tour in Manchester, England, by launching a strong critique against Donald Trump, labeling the Republican president’s administration as “corrupted and incompetent.”
During the performance, Springsteen expressed his love for America—a nation that, he believes, has represented hope and freedom for 250 years—stressing the importance of voicing support for democracy and the American experiment.
Later on, while introducing his band, he continued his critique, emphasizing his longstanding criticism of Trump.
He remarked on the disturbing reality in America today, where free speech is used to target dissenters. This is truly concerning.
He noted that the wealthiest Americans seem indifferent to the suffering of the world’s poorest children, which is a grave issue.
Furthermore, he criticized how some take pleasure in the struggles of American workers.
Springsteen highlighted a worrying trend of rolling back civil rights advancements, siding with dictators while neglecting allies who seek freedom. He also mentioned the troubling treatment of immigrants, who are often removed from streets and deported without due process.
He lamented that many elected officials have failed to guard the rights of American citizens against government overreach, displaying little regard for what it means to be truly American.
Despite these challenges, he expressed a sense of hope, referencing the thoughts of renowned American writer James Baldwin regarding the importance of humanity, however imperfect it may be.
Springsteen has a long history of criticizing Trump and the Republican Party, as previously reported.
Before 2016, he derided Trump’s campaign as an assault on democracy itself, stating that Trump lacked a “sense of decency.”
In 2017, he referred to Trump as a “conman,” voicing his discontent in a protest song released that year.
He called Trump “stupid” and continued to publicly criticize him throughout his presidency.
Leading up to the 2019 elections, Springsteen’s disdain for Trump persisted, even declaring that he would consider leaving the country if Trump won a second term.
Additionally, he collaborated with leftist activist Don Winslow in a popular video that employed derogatory terms for Trump supporters.
